Sitting in the cold doctor's office for my yearly check-up, knowing that I've had a hard year so far physically, emotionally, and spiritually. The doctor walks in and asks if there has been anything bothering me. I quickly mentioned the one thing I wanted to share with the doctor. After we talk about it, she asks “anything else?” Truly, there were a lot more things, like the long monthly cycle, the headaches, the stomach pain, the hormonal acne, but just like every other year before this, I said nothing. I sat there quietly wondering if I should bring the things to my doctor's attention. Then finally when the final moment hit, I spoke up. I told her they were small things I had noticed, and quickly she mentioned that many times it’s these small things we must get in order to really tackle the big things.
After doing labs, finally finding answers about my body, I realized that I do the same thing with God. Oftentimes I am quick to give him the weight of the ministry, that big need I may have, the health crisis in a family member, but I’m not willing to give him the anxiety I had on a random day, or the decision I need to make for a certain ministry plan, or the little lonely feeling that creeps up sometimes. I noticed that I've been coming to God only with the big things when it’s the little things that make up my heart.
Today, I challenge you to give God all the little things you don’t want to worry him about.
Give him that little fear attached to your future.
Give him that little sadness when you feel you have missed the mark.
Give him that little grief that still shows up sometimes. I know we want to give God only the big stuff, but He desires the little things. He desires your heart.
