God revealed to me that I didn’t need to chase a feeling to find Him.

We all desire an authentic, deep, and intimate relationship with God. A connection that feels real, unwavering, and filled with His presence. But just like any meaningful relationship, our walk with God requires growth, shedding of the old self, and releasing expectations of how things should feel.
I remember sitting in my closet, tears falling as I prayed. I longed for that tangible nearness of God, the kind I had once felt so strongly during a previous fast. But that moment had passed. And in its place, a new season had begun.
In this new season, you don’t have to chase old feelings. Instead, allow your relationship with your Heavenly Father to evolve. Life transitions, whether from singleness to marriage, child-free to school drop-offs, independence to moving back home, change is inevitable. And as we evolve, so must our faith. As earthly relationships evolve, our relationship with God must grow too.
It should deepen. It should expand in understanding. The key is not to recreate past experiences with God because God cannot be manipulated, and neither can your spiritual journey, but instead appreciate how God speaks to you today. While the foundational principles of our faith remain, God meets us in new ways. Sometimes in dreams, through worship, through service, in the midst of community, or in the stillness of the morning.

As I continued to sit in my closet, God revealed to me that I didn’t need to chase a feeling to find Him. While I grieved the emotional high of past encounters, I had gained something even greater: a firm knowing of who He is in my life. Those key moments with God are highlights of His faithfulness, serving as reminders when seasons shift. No one can take those encounters from us, but we aren’t meant to live in the past. We are meant to move forward.
You are not the same person you were in your last season, and that’s a good thing. Appreciate God for where He is with you now. Trust the process. Let your faith flow naturally, and you’ll find your relationship with Him growing in ways you never imagined.
