Break The Cycle

That step you’re unsure to take…take it.

I balled up the piece of paper and threw it towards the trash can. It bounced between the corners of the wall before landing near where I shot it. I was still coming up short. But not short in my mini-league basketball. Short in life. God had brought me out of a dark place, but here I was overthinking what was next. I made lists. I prayed. I made new lists. I organized what I had. I told myself I didn’t know what to do, but the truth is, I was scared.

I was scared to make another mistake. What if I step out on faith in this direction and it’s wrong? What if I waste my time? I don’t know how much my heart can endure in failed attempts.

And then God reminded me of a verse. It reminds me that I don’t have to arrive at the desired destination tomorrow, but I do need to take a step. To be idle will bring an upheaval of regrets I’m also not prepared for. You and I are not so big that we can destroy the plans of God. He can redirect. He knows how to reroute. He’s done it before, hasn’t He? Besides, the Glow Up is not a place but a process after all. A process you only learn by doing.

Break the cycle of fear by doing one thing towards what you’re afraid of. That step you’re unsure to take…take it. See what happens. You know what you need to do, especially if you’ve written it down on 100 balled-up Post-it notes like myself. Now, go for it! The first step gives you clarity and lights your pathway to the next. When all is dark around you, His word lights your path. But not the entire path to overwhelm you, but just enough. And with each step, fear fades. With each step, confidence builds. With each step, competence thrives. You got this, girl, and God’s got you all along the way.
